Obituary of John Lupienski

John Lupienski October 24, 1922 - March 07, 2005 John Lupienski, age 82, of Danbury, died on March 7, 2005 at Danbury Health Care Center. He was the husband of Stephanie Gajdoseh Lupienski. John was born in New Fairfield on October 24, 1922, a son of the late Pietro and Alexandria Kosakoska Lupienski. He was retired from Republic Foil in 1988 where he worked as a machine operator. A Veteran of World War II, John served with the United States Marine Corps. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received in action against an enemy of the United States. He also was honored by Lieutenant General H.M Smith with the Bronze Star Medal for "heroic achievement in action against the enemy on Guam, Marianas Islands, on 27 July 1944. Corporal Lupienski was a member of a rifle company whose attack was halted by a Japanese strongpoint. He located a Japanese pill-box and, with complete disregard for his personal safety and under intense fire, moved up to a position from which he could deliver effective fire from close range. His courageous action enabled the supporting weapons to destroy the pill-box. His aggressive determination was an inspiration to the troops and his conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service." Besides his wife of 55 years, Mr. Lupienski is survived by two sons: Gary Lupienski of Danbury, and Mark Lupienski of Superior, CO; a daughter: Gail Steinhauser and her husband, Phillip of Fayetteville, TN; his two grandchildren; a brother; 3 sisters and several nieces and nephews.
