Donald L. Maclay

Donald L. Maclay, 72, of Hop Brook Road, Brookfield, devoted husband of Bettie (Shenk) Maclay, died at his home on Sunday, April 20th. He was born in Boston, MA on June 9, 1935, son of the late John and Lillian P. (McCurdy) Maclay.
Mr. Maclay was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving with the United States Coast Guard, and was among the first to circumnavigate thru the North West Passage.
He was a writer for the Associated Press and the New Bedford Standard Times, covering the waterfront and later the War on Poverty. He retired as a writer from IBM after 25 years of employment.
In addition to his beloved wife of 45 years, Bettie, he will be sadly missed by his two sons, Jonathan Maclay of Waterbury, Jeffrey Maclay and his wife, Leslie of Ashburn, VA; his two daughters, Jennifer Toussaint and her husband, Mark of New Milford, and Julia Maclay of Long Beach, CA; his four grandchildren, Peyton and Spencer Maclay, Benjamin and Gilbert Toussaint. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be held at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, on Thursday, April 24th at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Brookfield.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00pm.
