Helen S. Maier, age 87, of Danbury, formerly of Cavendish, Vermont, died on Friday at Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care in Connecticut. She was the wife of the late William Maier.
Mrs. Maier was born in Elizabeth, NJ on April 4, 1916, a daughter of the late George and Anna (Frombach) Schmidt. She was retired from Doubleday Publishing where she worked for over 15 years. Mrs. Maier enjoyed needlework, crocheting, baking, and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She was an active member of the Cavendish Baptist Church where, for many years, she provided weekly fresh altar flowers, and many other services. She was a very loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Maier is survived by 3 daughters: Anna Maier-Koloseike of Hanover, NH; Joyce Goldstein of Mamaroneck, NY; and Nancy Giustra of East Rockaway, NY; a son: Bill Maier of Spring Branch, TX; a brother, George Schmidt of Fayetteville, PA; and a sister, Hilda Moore of South Bound Brook, NJ; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2004 at a time to be announced at Rockville Cemetery, Lynbrook, New York. The family will receive friends at Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, CT on Monday afternoon from 4:00 until 7:00. Donations Information
