Auntie said that she just found my posts from 2006 about Uncle Rich. Its been a really long time since he passed now, but it still hurts. I wanted to take a moment and say a few words again. In a world full of unjust and awful people I can honestly say that if I am a little bit like my Uncle Rich was, I am a success. Evey time I look at Mali I realize again that she is a gift from Uncle Rich's Guardian Angel. Mali has one of the strongest mothers I have ever met in the world. Her Kindness shines like a beacon in this negative society. If I turn out to be 1/2 as strong as her, I will be a success. I need not forget as I get older that the simple things are never to be taken for granted. Uncle Rich really cherished that. He loved his family, cooking, his job, his wife, and his pets. He didn't need fancy things because what he had was real, and close to his heart. That's why mine broke when he died. 6 years later, and I still sit here at 24 years old crying. Like I said as time goes on, it still hurts. I know he is looking over our family though, always.

I am on my own here at college. I have learned alot about the person I want to be. It is similar to my uncle who I love and miss.
More than anything I wish when I went over to Aunties house it was the same. I wish Mali could know the feeling of a hug from her father.
I wish I could have one more Breakfeast or Dinner cooked by him. I wish I could have one more hug. Just one. My whole entire life I had never seen
him be mean or rude. I want to live my life like him and Aunt Lisa. I just miss Uncle Rich so much. I wish he could have come to my graduation party,
Instead we cried in his absence. Well Uncle Rich I love and think about you all the time. I hope you are doing well, and thank you for all your help this year.
You have no idea how much we all love and miss you. Wish you were here

I signed this once with my brother, but I wasn't ready yet to say all I wanted to. So, this one is for my Uncle Rich.
Dear Uncle Rich,
You were a fantastic uncle and person. I don't remember a time when you weren't there for something important. As much as we joked around and gave each other a hard time, I hope so much that you knew how much I love you and how much I've always looked up to you. I wish that I could see you smile again, hear that laugh of yours, or hear you call me your "Little Lauren," as only you and Auntie could get away with calling me. I can't put into words how much I miss you and still feel that this isn't real. I don't know that I'll ever understand why you can't be with us anymore, but I do know for certain that you are in heaven and that God needed the very best person there was for something spectacular. You are our angel, Uncle Rich and I know that you are watching over all of us, especially Auntie, from somewhere up there. Please help Auntie get Mali. I promise you that the rest of us will help as much as we can. Just please know that I love you so much and that you have helped make me the person that I am. I love you and I miss you tons.

Dear Lisa,
My name is Jill Blankschen and I am a friend of Maureen Wagher's. I met you and Rich Christmastime 2001 when we went to sing Christmas Carols at his Mom's nursing home. I felt the two of you were very friendly and welcoming to me and I will always
remember that. Please know that I am truly sorry for your loss. I am certain that these words don't even come close to matching the magnitude of your grief. Please know that you are in my prayers and may you find comfort and peace of mind in God's grace and His peace, which transcends all understanding.

Dear Lisa:
Please accept my deepest sympathy for you loss. I think of Rich every day and miss him very much. I used to run into him in the parking lot all the time and we'd always stop to chat. As another sales rep, he'd always wish me good luck when I went on the road. We talked and supported each other when his mom and my dad both had Parkinson's, and when they were placed in nursing homes.
Rich was always a good natured guy who never said a bad thing about anyone. Always happy, always smiling. As you already know, he is sorely missed by all at The News Times. Pleasy accept my sympathy and support.

This past holiday season, both Rich and Lisa became
directly involved in the work that I do as a hospice
social worker. They were both particularly moved by
the story of "Jessica" - a 4-year-old little
girl living in inner-city New Haven, dying of a heart
defect. Both Rich and Lisa donated cash and bought
gifts for "Jessica," as well as for other patients. Further,
they shared "Jessica's" story with those around them, and
inspired their friends and colleagues to be similarly
generous. When our family gathered on Christmas Eve,
I shared stories of the tremendous joy that was brought
to my patients and their families, and many emotional tears
were shed, not least of all from Rich (he was, after all,
just a big sap!)
I cannot believe that, a few short weeks later,
the world has lost such a wonderful person as our
Rich! Sadly, the world has also lost another
little soul. Barely a day after our Rich was taken
suddenly from us, "Jessica," the little 4-year-old girl for
whom Rich and Lisa had worked so tirelessly to bring some
holiday joy, joined Rich in Heaven. I find it a great
comfort to know that Rich was certainly one of the first
angels to greet "Jessica," take her up in those big arms of
his, flash her one of his trademark smiles, and help
her to be at peace!
As Sir Humphrey Davy said, "Life is made up, not of
great sacrifices or duties, but of little things, in
which smiles and kindnesses and small obligations,
given habitually, are what win and preserve the
heart, and secure comfort." Rich, you were and still are
a true embodiment of these words, and you will be
missed more than mere words can express!

I just found out about Rich's passing yesterday and I would like to extend my thoughts and prayers to the families. The last time I spoke to Rich was at our 20 year High School reunion back in October 1998. I told Rich that my mother had read a Danbury News Times article about him receiving an award for volunteer work he had been doing. She then commenced telling me what a nice guy Rich Mesner must be and asked "why can't you be more like Rich Mesner?" We all got a bit of a chuckle out of that. I was really impressed with what a sincerely nice guy Richard was.
One of our other classmates, Dean Russell, notified me of Richard's passing and we both had the same reaction "what a loss, what a great guy".
It is difficult to make sense as to why God allows these types of incidents to occur. But after reading all of the very kind stories about his generosity and unselfishness perhaps God thought Rich deserved to arrive in Heaven a little earlier then the rest of us.

As a employee of the Craft Basket, is where I met Rich. If there is one person who would take time out from their busy schedule just to say hello and ask how you were it was Rich. His smile, his laugh, and what he had to say, each meaningful word he spoke of he was sincere.
As I look back to one day last summer and spotted him at Bethel Food store picking up one of his ads we had talked and I am not sure how we got on the subject of me being adopted his eyes lit up with such interest of what I was telling him what it was like being adopted and how I was searching for my biological parents. He then told me about the little girl he was in the process of adopting. From that day forward he kept me posted with each struggling process he was going through with his wife. It made me think of what my parents went through adopting me as I was looking forward to the day when he would show off his daughter to everyone.
Rich has touched so many people lives and I am glad he pass through my life as he was and still is an inspiration. He will be sadly missed by us all.
God Bless...

Dear Lisa:
I just don't know what to say. I hurt so much for the loss of my friend that I cannot even begin to think how you must feel. Rich was the bright spot in my day at work. He was so intuitive to the way I was feeling and always had the right words to say--even when I might not like to hear them. He would always say "I'm only saying this to you because I care about you". I don't think there is anyone I respected more. I am so happy that you will be adopting that little girl. It won't be easy but I can't think of two better people who deserved the joy of a child. I pray the process goes quickly so you may enjoy the pleasure of your little Mali Anne.If there is ANYTHING I can do, please, please don't hesitate to ask. It would help me be able to give back what Rich has done for me over the past eight years. God bless you, give you peace and make you joyful once again. Amy

Dear Lisa, To say that I am deeply saddened by the loss of Rich just doesn't seem to be enough. When I heard the news it just didn't connect I just saw you two at Alanna's birthday Party, celebrating a happy time, how could this be. Then it leads me to be frankly a bit pissed off a God....Why would a God who loves us choose to take such a kind and wonderful man who is in the prime of his life. That is just not fair! I was talking to someone about what a great guy Rich was and why would such a tragic thing happen. Then something funny happened I think God was speaking throug this lady and she said "Think about it Patti when we pick flowers from the garden do we pick the shriveled up wilted ones or do we pick the ones that are vibrant and full of color and life?" God picked a perfect flower in your dear husband Rich. I

We first met Rich on July 4, 1991. Lisa had been dating Rich for about four weeks and he was invited to our log home in Bridgewater for a holiday celebration. He arrived at our home in his Chevy Cavalier laden with chaving dishes and all kinds of food. We were overly impressed initially. As the day progressed, we began to begin to know him. Neither Gail nor I could believe what Lisa had brought home. Behind closed doors we would say, "who is this guy?" We thought that nobody could be this good. Rich proved to us as we grew to know him that he was not only that good, but better than we could ever have imagined.

He was always happy, his eyes always smiled, he always laughed, he made people around him laughed and happy. He made me laugh hard so many times. I am happy to say I feel lucky that I had the chance to meet and know Richard, Lisa and the rest of the family. I know how much he is missed by so many of us. I was in the emergency room with my sister, Lisa, our Parents and our brother Mike the morning that Rich died, while waiting for transfer to Hartford Hospital's cardiac care center via Life Star helicoptor. On behalf of the family I would like to extend our warmest thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and EMT's that desperately raced to save Richard's life. As my family and I arrived at the hospital one-by-one he greeted us with his warm deep voice that we have all come to know and love. To me he said . . . "Timmy boy what are you doing here?" in a tone that sounded apologetic for rousing us in the middle of the night . . . in his last hours he was still putting others ahead of himself. True to his character to the very end!
Ironically (?) the day we buried Rich, there was an article in The News-Times concerning the pending expansion of cardiac care at New Milford Hospital to include angioplasty. The article explained that "recent studies have shown angioplasty improves both rates of survival and quality of life of heart attack patients compared to the clot-busting drugs. To get the best results, doctors should perform the angioplasty within an hour of the onset of symptoms". Not likely if you have a heart attack in New Milford today. On January 20th at 4:00 PM there will be a hearing at New Milford hospital for public comment about the proposed expansion. On behalf of Rich Mesner I will be at that hearing to lend my opinion. I welcome anyone else who reads this to join me. It will not bring Rich back, but perhaps it may save the life of another man or woman. For this I do in loving memory of Rich, who I am proud to say was my brother in-law!

Dear Rich:
Why is it that we seem to know the perfect things to say when someone has past that could have just as easily been said in life. Rich, you were such a warm and gentle man. To Mike, you were like a brother and of course, a dear friend; to Emily a big teddy bear of an Uncle who she loved and adored. For me, the only regret I have is not spending more time with you; for not giving back to you as much as you gave to me - the endless meals and entertainment; your anecdotes and flair for life; and most importantly, you taught me the value and importance of family. I thank you for this gift and I will always be here for your family, especially Lisa who I love like a sister. You will always be near and dear to our hearts. With love -

I too, would like to honor my husband, just as all of you wonderful, most dear, family and friends. First, I would like to thank each and everyone of you for all your support and kindness throughout these passed few days. I knew Rich was the man of my dreams the night I met him, a true "Knight in Shinning Armour". When I met him on our first date. It was a night I will never forget. I was sitting on a piano bench at friends house, sipping a glass of wine. Rich came across the room and introduced himself to me, and at that moment....I knew this was a very special man!! We talked for hours. He drove me home to my parents house. Such a gentlemen, he asked the permission of my friend Linda if it would be alright to drive me home. He gave me a gentle and beautiful kiss goodnight, and asked if he could call me the following day. I said "oh please, I would love to see you again". Rich and I were engaged to be married 8 months later. We knew that we had found our soul mates! We were married on October 3, 1992, the happiest day of my life! These past few days have been the absolute worst days I of my life, you are gone now, I can't even believe it. Not you! It can't be real! I want you to know that I will go to China to bring home our daughter; Mali Anne Mesner, because I can't wait to tell her all about her Daddy, and how proud she will be when I tell her everything about you. Please give me the strength to complete this task. I love you more than life itself, Rich, I miss you so much!!
