Sr. Laure Racicot, CND, known in religion as Sr. St. Virginia, died at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton, CT on January 24, 2007 at the age of 106.
Sr. Laure Racicot's life spanned the entire 20th century and moved into the 21st century. She was born on June 12, 1900 in St. Johnsbury, VT, to the late Virginia (Guimond) and Jacques Pierre Racicot, As a child, she attended Mount St. Joseph Academy in St. Johnsbury, VT.
Sr. Laure pronounced her first vows as a sister of the Congregation de Notre Dame in Montreal, Canada on August 17, 1923. She served as a well loved teacher in elementary schools in Canada, Chicago, IL, Lewiston, ME, and New Haven, CT. She continued her ministry as principal of St. Anthony School in Providence, RI, and later as principal of Maternity BVM School in Bourbonnais, IL. In 1965 Sr. Laure took up a new ministry as bursar at St. Thomas the Apostle Convent in E. Norwalk, CT.
In 1989, Sr. Laure retired to the Congregation of Notre Dame residence in Ridgefield, CT and moved to Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton, CT in 2003 where she resided until her death.
Sr. Laure is survived by her sister, Marie Claire Nolin, and many nieces and nephews. She is mourned by her lifelong friends in the Congregation of Notre Dame and by the many whose lives she touched throughout her life. Funeral Information
Friends may call at Villa Notre Dame in Wilton, CT on Friday from 2:00 - 7:00 PM. A prayer service will be held at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at Villa Notre Dame, Wilton, CT on Saturday, January 27.
