Dorothy C. Tomascak Bona, age 79, of Brookfield, CT, died peacefully at her home on October 18, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. Dot was born in the family homestead in Brookfield, CT on Friday, November 30, 1928, the daughter of the late John Joseph and Elisabeth Mary Piskura Tomascak. She was a graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1946.
Dot was married to her beloved husband, Fran, on November 21, 1953 at Joseph's Church, Brookfield, CT. She worked at Meeker's Hardware during her high school years, after which she worked for GE in New Milford manufacturing heated gloves for the Air Force. From there she went to Dostal in Danbury, then to Barden Corp. where she became Group Leader of the Ball Department. She retired in 1961 to raise her loving children.
She was an active parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Brookfield serving as secretary to several fund drives. For over 40 years she was responsible for the parish envelope system and volunteered with the religious education program. She was an active member of the Confraternity of the Rosary. She also volunteered at the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in Brookfield helping to maintain the gardens and painting of the statues. As homemaker, wife and mother, in her spare time she enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, wood carving and ceramics. Her hobbies also included collecting bird figurines and Depression glassware.
Dot is survived by her husband of 54 years, her son, Robert Bona and wife Basia, grandchildren Robert, Ryan and Alexis Bona, daughter Beverly and her husband Jeffrey Pierpaoli, granddaughters Jacqueline Fortin and Kayla Pierpaoli. She is also survived by three sisters, Mary Went, Theresa Doctor, and Elizabeth Wojciechowski, all of Brookfield; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her four siblings, Alousious "Al," John, Vincent, and Helen Tomasack. Funeral Information
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 21st at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church in Brookfield. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford.
The family will receive friends at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, on Monday between the hours of 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00pm. Donations Information
