Robert C. Smith
January 11, 1927 - February 27, 2005
Robert C. Smith of Olive Street, Danbury passed to his eternal rest early Sunday morning at Danbury Hospital.
Mr. Smith was born in Danbury on January 11, 1927, a son of the late James and Fannie (Cree) Smith. He lived most of his entire life in Danbury, attending local grade schools, after which he went to St. George's Preparatory School in Middletown, RI. He excelled in many sports, but was particularly involved with football and baseball. He also played baseball with local Danbury teams. He was employed by Leahy's for over 35 years. Mr. Smith was a life long member of the Central Christian Church and he coached a basketball team here for many years. He was also a volunteer at Danbury Hospital for many years.
He is survived by a son: Geoffrey Smith and his wife Nancy of Bixby, OK, a daughter, Nancy Smith of Los Angeles, CA; a grandson, Matthew Smith; a sister: Gertrude Bunny of Avon, OH; a cousin: George Graef of Danbury; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother: Rev. Gerald K. Smith. Funeral Information
A funeral service will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 4:00 PM with Rev. Timothy Crowley of Central Christian Church officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3:00 until the time of the service Donations Information
