Thomas Visser

Thomas M. Visser, of Bethel, husband of Joy (Clarke) Visser, died on Friday, June 9th at Danbury Hospital, after a lengthy illness. He was born in, Kendal, Java Indonesia on January 26, 1935, son of the late Julius Josef Maria Visser and Maria Christina Jacqueline Jansen-Visser.
Thom was born and raised in Indonesia to Dutch parents. His family was interned as prisoners of war for several years, while the country was under Japanese occupation during WWII. After surviving the camps he returned to the Netherland as a young teenager and completed his schooling. Thom came to the United States as a young adult. He was drafted and served in the Korean War. Before retiring he worked at Pamby's Motors in Ridgefield.
He will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Diana Gregory and her husband, Andrew of North Carolina, and Sandra Visser-Sampson and her husband Eric of New Milford; his son, Alan Visser of Brookfield; and his eight grandchildren, Gianna, Shayla, Alexa, Brittany, Reyna, Ryan, Mason and Karissa. He is also survived by his sisters, Lucie Visser, Gemma Van Der Griend, Heppie Van Dijk, Leonore Van Steen-Visser, Stance Jacobs-Visser, and his brother, Sjoerd Visser, of the Netherlands.
