Emil John Winkel
March 15, 1916 - May 30, 2009
Emil John Winkel(Jack), age 93, of Brookfield, beloved husband of Sophia (Zalutko) Winkel, died at Bethel Health Care Center on Saturday, May 30th. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 15, 1916, son of the late Emil and Elizabeth (Fleischmann) Winkel. He was a graduate of the Brooklyn Technical Institute.
Mr. Winkel was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. He was a draughtsman with Ford Instrument Company of Long Island City for 35 years before owning and operating the Ridgefield Motor Inn.
A devout Lutheran, Mr. Winkel was a current member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Georgetown, and a past member of St. Paul's, Richmond Hill, Queens, and St. John's in Lynbrook, NY. He attended the Lutheran Summer Conference in Silver Bay, NY annually, for fifty years; and was also a member of the Lutheran Laity Movement.
In addition to his many activities at church, he was an avid boater and enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sophia, his son, Brian Winkel and wife, Phyllis, of Cornwall, New York, his son Douglas Winkel and wife, Martha, of Warren, Connecticut, his grandson Doan Winkel and wife Melissa and great grandson, Ethan Winkel, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Helene; his granddaughter, Laura Winkel; his brother, Robert Winkel, and his sister Dorothy Brede. Funeral Information
The family will receive friends at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, Connecticut on Tuesday, June 2nd between the hours of 7:00 and 9:00pm.
Funeral Services will be held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Georgetown, Connecticut on Wednesday, June 3rd at 10:00am. Burial will follow at All Faiths Cemetery, Middle Village, NY. Donations Information
