Obituary of John H. Wirag

John H. Wirag Jr. November 16, 1923 - November 11, 2009 John H. Wirag, Jr., age 85, of Danbury, devoted husband of Florence (Jesionowski) Wirag, died on Wednesday, November 11th in Danbury. He was born in Montrose, NY on November 16, 1923, son of the late John, Sr., and Dorothea (Outhouse) Wirag. Mr. Wirag was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. In his younger years, he worked as a hatter in Danbury. He then went on to retire as a custodian, first from the Danbury school system and later from the United States Post Office. He was a member of the N.A.R.F.E He enjoyed stamp collecting, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed RVing with his son, Walter, and looked forward to their trips to Walt's farm in upstate NY. During those trips, he visited with his great grandchildren and held the job of feeding the chickens. In addition to his beloved wife of 59 years, Florence, he will be sadly missed by his two sons, John Wirag III and his wife, Deborah of Spring, TX, and Walter Wirag and his wife, Debra of New Milford; his two daughters, Patricia Wirag-Piorkowski and her husband, Robert of Bethel, and Elizabeth Grosse and her husband, William of Brookfield. He is also survived by his cherished six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; as well as his brother, Robert Wirag; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Monday, November 16th at 10:00am. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, November 15th between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00pm.
