Rieta D. Anderson

Rieta Durant Anderson, age 97, lifelong resident of the Danbury area, died on February 3, 2005 at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Stuart Anderson.
She was born in Bethel on October 5, 1907, a daughter of the late P.C. and Minnie Mae (Northrop) Durant. Mrs. Anderson was a member of the 1925 graduating class of Bethel High School. In 1931 she married Stuart Anderson of New Milford. She and her husband were longtime members of Master Masons and the Order of the Amaranth. As a member of the Bethel Methodist Church for many years, she will be remembered there for her altar flower arrangements and her spectacular church decorations at Christmas time. She also worked in Markoff's Shoe Store for thirty-five years, fitting several generations of children with Buster Brown shoes.
In addition to church and work, she found joy in gardening and in being with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by a son: Jon Anderson and his wife Claudia of Brookfield; a daughter: Linda Anderson Claff of Sharon, NH; eight grandchildren: Jeffrey Anderson, Julie Barry, James Anderson, Rachel Claff, Bethany Claff, Amy Hokett, Michael Anderson, and Gretchen Davis; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Jay Anderson and by her three sisters and two brothers. Funeral Information
The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 7, 2005 at 11:00 am at the Brookfield Funeral Home 786 Federal Rd., Brookfield. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 5, 2005 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Donations Information
