Eugene N. Arcery

Eugene N. Arcery, age 82, of New Fairfield, devoted husband of Lillian (Kulp) Arcery, died suddenly on Wednesday, December 31st at Danbury Hospital.
He was born in Queens, NY on July 24, 1926, son of the late John and Josephine (Rossi) Arcery. He served honorably on the Aircraft Carrier Antietam during World War II. After serving in the Navy, Mr. Arcery graduated from Yankton College in South Dakota, he completed his graduate training at Springfield College in MA and Colombia University in NY.
A trained psychologist, he worked for many years as the Director of Pupil Personnel Services in Mahopac, NY, helping to expand and develop the special education program in that district. After retirement, he worked as a consultant at B.O.C.E.S in Yorktown Heights, NY until 2007.
A resident of New Fairfield for more than 40 years, he was an active member of the community. Including but not limited to being a member of the Lion's Club, the Veterans Association, and the Choir at St. Edward the Confessor Church. He was a former member of the New Fairfield Board of Selectmen and the Board of Education.
In recognition for his longstanding commitment to the Lion's, in 2003 he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow, one of the most prestigious awards granted by that organization.
Gene was an avid runner and biker. He competed in hundreds of road races over the years, often winning for his age group. He competed in six marathons including 3 in his 70th year.
In addition to Lillian, his beloved wife of 50 years, Gene will be sadly missed by his two sons, Edward A. Arcery and John D. Arcery, both of New Fairfield; his two daughters, Jeanne M. Sacrider and her husband, Gary of New Fairfield, and Laura E. Carbone and her husband, Kerry of New Haven; his four grandchildren, Richard E. Arcery, Andrew G., Amanda J., and Christopher J. Sacrider. He is also survived by his brother, Alan Arcery and his wife, Marie of Massapequa Park, NY; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Nicholas Arcery. Funeral Information
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 5th at 10:00am at St. Edward the Confessor Church in New Fairfield. Burial will follow in King Street Cemetery, Danbury.
The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Sunday, January 4th between the hours of 2:00 - 4:00 and 5:00 - 7:00pm. Donations Information
