William L. Cornell, 86, of Maple Avenue Ext, Bethel, husband of Ann (Latona) Cornell, died at Danbury Hospital on Wednesday, May 16th. He was born in Newark, New Jersey on May 11th 1921, son of the late William L. and Lillian Cornell.
Mr. Cornell was a Veteran of World War II, serving during Pearl Harbor with the United States Navy. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, American Defense, American Area, Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific 1 Star.
He worked as a service technician for Leahy's, retiring after 37 years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Bethel.
In addition to his beloved wife of 62 years, Ann, he is survived by his son William L. Cornell and his wife Kay of Louisville, KY; his daughters, Linda Cornell of Bethel, Sandi Murray and her husband Bob of New Milford; his grandchildren Bill and Michael Cornell, Amanda Bloom, Tina, Emily, Kelly and Robert Murray; his two great grandchildren Michael and Marcus Cornell. He is also survived by his sister Lillian Vallely; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his grandson Dennis Bloom. Funeral Information
Funeral Services will be held on Monday May 21st at 10:00 am at the First Congregational Church of Bethel. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Bethel.
Family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St. Danbury on Sunday, May 20th between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00 pm. Donations Information
