Obituary of Florence Fako

Florence Fako November 20, 1915 - January 11, 2010 Florence A. (Hunger) Fako, 94, of Southbury, beloved wife of Paul Fako, Jr., died peacefully with her husband at her side, at their home on Monday, January 11th. She was born in Allentown, PA on November 20, 1915, daughter of the late Moses and Stella (Whitaken) Hunger. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Danbury. Mrs. Fako was a Veteran of World War II, serving as a surgical technician and also served during the Korean War as a nurse at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where she met her husband. She served stateside during both tours of duty, and attained the rank of Sgt. First Class. She was a recipient of the American Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. She then went on to work as a sportswear buyer for John McLeans Store in Danbury; and then spent six years as a realtor for Marie Scalzo Co. Florence loved gardening, playing golf, and her family. She enjoyed painting and won first prize at Watermark at East Hill in the Novice class, at the age of 93. One of her happiest memories was a three week trip with her mother-in-law to visit family members in Czechoslovakia who she hadn't seen in 50 years. In addition to her husband of 55 years, Paul, she will be sadly missed by her son William A. Wiedergott II and his wife, Sylvia of MA; her six grandchildren, Anita Edwardson and her husband, Ron, Teresa Wilson and her husband, Steve, William A. Wiedergott III, Karl A. Wiedergott and Heather Wiedergott; and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Heide. Funeral Information A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 10th at 11:00am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Burial of cremains will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
