Waldo Ferrarone

Waldo Ferrarone, age 89, of Danbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 21st, at his home, which he built himself. He was born in Danbury on July 12, 1918 to Alphonso and Madilla (Varnero) Ferrarone.
Waldo was a 1936 graduate of Danbury High School. He served as a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant during WWII serving in the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge with the 94th Infantry and was awarded the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, and Good Conduct Medal. He remained active in WWII reunions.
He was involved in many sports and honored by the Danbury Old Timers Association, of which he was a past president. He played baseball in the Twilight League in 1947-48 for the American Legion and softball for the Industrial and Merchant Leagues. He was a past president of the Danbury Industrial Softball League. Waldo played football with the Barbary Coast Independent League in 1948-50. As a golfer, Waldo served as president and tournament director of the Richter Senior Golf Club. He was an active volunteer for years at their functions. Waldo was a founder and charter member of the Danbury Bowling Association and served as one of its presidents and he was involved in the formation of the YABA. He was elected to the DBA Hall of Fame and to the State of Connecticut Bowling Hall of Fame.
Waldo served on the Brookfield Philatelic Society: he was an avid stamp collector, gardener, traveler, and fan of the New York Yankees and Giants. He leaves a rich legacy of community involvement, humor, honor, strength, and intellectual curiosity.
He was employed for 27 years as maintenance supervisor for Davis and Geck. He was however, most proud of his extended family.
Waldo is survived by his wife of 36 years, Shirley Van Leuven Ferrarone. He will also be greatly missed by his daughters, Donna (Bill) Moniz and Patricia (Luis) Marques; and by his stepchildren Holley Richardson, Sheryl (Joseph) Schleis, William (Debbie) Linstrum, Jean (Dennis) Ackridge, Joan (Walter Kohler) Linstrum, 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth (Wildman) Ferrarone, stepdaughter, Rae Boughton, and brothers Bruno and Charles Ferrarone. Funeral Information
Funeral Services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, on Thursday, October 25th at 10:00am with Rev. Iris Peterson of St. James Church officiating. Burial in Wooster Cemetery will follow.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening between the hours of 5 - 8 pm. Donations Information
