Sr. Evelyn Gillis CND

Sister Evelyn Gillis, CND, known in religion as, Sister Saint Cecilia of Rome, died at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton, CT, April 8, 2004 at the age of 92.
She was born in Judique, Nova Scotia, Canada, September 11, 1911, daughter of the late Alex J. and Cecilia McDonald Gillis. She completed her elementary and high school education in Nova Scotia and received a BS Ed in History from Fordham University.
Sister Evelyn made First Profession of vows in the Congregation of Notre Dame of Montreal in August, 1938 and Final Vows in August 1944. Her teaching ministry began in New York City where she spent a total of 31 years as teacher and librarian serving at St Jean Baptiste Elementary and High schools, Villa Maria Academy, St Columba as well as Notre Dame Academy, Staten Island. She also served in schools in Chicago, Bourbonnais, South Holland, IL, Waterbury, CT, Providence, RI, and Nova Scotia, Canada. She retired in 1991 and came to Notre Dame, Ridgefield, CT in 2000 before going to Lourdes Health Care Center in 2002.
Sister Evelyn is survived by a brother Neil, several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral Information
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, April 12, at 10:00 am at the CND, 223 West Mountain Road, Ridgefield, CT. The Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, was in charge of arrangements.
