Obituary of William A. Grund

William A. Grund November 14, 1953 - December 28, 2009 William "Willy" A. Grund, Jr., age 56, of Danbury, died suddenly at his home on December 28, 2009. He was the devoted long-time companion of Freda Belot. He was born in Astoria, Queens on November 14, 1953, a son of the late William A. and Evelyn (Collins) Grund. He was raised in New York and Brookfield, CT. He attended St. Joseph's in Brookfield, the Military Air Academy in Melbourne, FL and graduated from Brookfield High School. He then became the third generation Ironworker to work for Local 40 Ironworkers of New York City where he worked for 35 years. A kind man with a courageous heart, Willy was considered a hero by all for his efforts as a rescue worker for the 9-11 recovery effort as well as the recovery efforts for the 1993 attack on the towers. He was a Minuteman for the National Minuteman Project which is a citizen's vigilance operation. He and Freda lived in the Hamptons for over 10 years; they enjoyed it so much that they had hoped to retire there. Besides his beloved companion, Freda, Willy is survived by a sister-in-law, Jeanette Grund of Michigan and by many, many dear friends and family members. He was predeceased by a brother, Douglas Grund and sister, Stephanie (Grund) Musgrove. Funeral Information A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 6:30 pm at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Rd., Brookfield, CT. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 3:00 pm until the time of the service at 6:30. Cremation will be private and at the direction of the family.
