Florence R. Helley

Florence R. Helley, age 82, passed away on Monday, January 25th in Danbury. She was born September 12, 1927 in Danbury, a daughter of the late Annie Teresa (Ginty) Helley and Daniel Helley.
She was a member of the class of 1945 of Danbury High School. In 1963, she graduated from The Graduate School of Savings Banking of the National School of Savings Banks at Brown University.
Florence was employed by the Savings Bank of Danbury for forty-seven years and was elected an officer of the bank in 1953 and a director in 1975. After holding various positions, she became the bank's fifth president in 1976 and the first female bank president in Connecticut. She retired in 1993. Over the years, she belonged to various civic and banking organizations. She was a parishioner of St. Peter Church in Danbury.
In 1980, the Danbury Business and Professional Women's Club selected her as their choice for "Woman of the Year" for the City of Danbury. She was a subject of biographical record in "Who's Who of American Women" 1981/1982.
She is survived by two sisters, Margaret A. Lamson and Josephine F. Helley, both of Danbury; six nieces and nephews and their spouses; and twelve grandnieces and grandnephews; one great grandniece and one great grandnephew.
She was predeceased by her sister, Mary H. Minton. Funeral Information
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church, Danbury, on Friday, January 29th at 10:30am. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Friday morning between the hours of 9:00 - 10:00am.
