Robert F. Holt, 82, of Driftway Road, Danbury, devoted husband of Arlene (Greene) Holt, died at the Veterans Hospital in New Haven on Monday, January 10th. He was born in Danbury on January 10, 1922, son of the late Charles W. and Laura (Mathis) Holt. He was a graduate of Danbury High School.
Bobby was a former professional boxer, having 20 amateur fights and 18 professional appearances, winning 14 and losing 4. He was honored in the Hall of Fame of the Greater Danbury Athletic Oldtimers' Association.
His boxing career ended when he was wounded while serving with the United States Army infantry during World War II. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, a Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.
Bobby maintained his love of boxing throughout his life and had been involved with the Hat City Boxing Club as a trainer, adviser and supporter.
Bobby owned and operated Sanitation Engineers Charles Holt & Son's and retired as a custodian from Savings Bank of Danbury. He was a lifetime member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Danbury.
In addition to his cherished wife of 59 years, Arlene, he is survived by his son, Leslie Holt and his wife, Judy of Danbury; his granddaughter, Rebecca Holt of West Haven; his three step grandchildren, Ben, Elizabeth, Sarah and Jacob Larkin; and his great grandson, Evan Robert Larkin along with one great granddaughter Mira Lee Larkin. He is also survived by his twin brother, Henry Holt of Danbury; his sister, Gertrude Jenkins of Waterbury; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Information
Funeral Services will be held at the New Hope Baptist Church, Danbury, on Sunday, January 16th at 2:00pm with Reverend Ivan Pitts officiating. The family will receive friends at the church between the hours of 1 and 2:00pm. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery will take place in the Spring. Donations Information
