John Calvin Humphrey, age 85, a 60 year resident of Danbury, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 6, 2007. He was the devoted husband of Marie (Hastie) Humphrey.
Mr. Humphrey was born in Utica, NY on September 4, 1922, a son of the late Horace M. and Lucy (Cummings) Humphrey. He proudly served his country during WWII as a Radar Controller on the USS Tuscaloosa. He was the recipient of the European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the American Campaign Medal, the Navy Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal; he received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the War.
While employed as an engineer by Data Control Systems (now the Eaton Corp), he designed and created electronic boards which were used in the space rockets and also in the Mercury space program. During his retirement, he enjoyed gardening with Marie, his wife of 60 years. He was also a devoted father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
In addition to the love of his life, Marie, he is survived by 4 sons: Steven Humphrey and his wife Lynn of Sonora, CA, Mark Humphrey of Florida, Robert Humphrey and his wife Colleen of New Milford, and Keith Humphrey and his wife Marcine of Wappingers Falls, NY; a daughter, Wendy Kelley and her husband Mike of Bluffton, SC; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 12, 2007 at 6:00pm at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, CT. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 until the service at 6:00.
