Obituary of LeRoy T. Smith
LeRoy T. Smith, lovingly known as either “Pops” or “Smitty,” beloved husband of Elizabeth (Fernandes) Smith, died peacefully at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation in New Milford, on Sunday, October 14, 2018. He was born in Redding on May 22, 1933, son of the late LeRoy E. and Flora May (Warner) Smith. He was a member of Walnut Hill Community Church.
Smitty’s passion for cars was the foundation on which he built his business, Smitty’s Auto Body in Bethel. He was a valued and trusted member of the community for always providing quality work with fair prices. He was a past member of the Auto Body Association of Western Connecticut who enjoyed supporting his fellow professionals.
In addition to his cherished wife of 30 years, Elizabeth, he will be sadly missed by his two sons, Ted and Tod Smith (Oh); his daughters, Kathy Maillet (Mike), Jody Rieve (Michael); his stepchildren, Leon Doerr, Diane Lechner, Lisa Best (Gary), Gloria Johanning, and Lucienne McKinney and her husband Matt; his grandchildren, Lindsey, Matthew, Kimberly, Emily, Allison, Adrienne, Michael, Kelly, Connor, Evan, Grayson, Finnegan, and Piper. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Terri McHenry; and his sister, June Sambrook.
Funeral Services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Friday, October 19th at 12:00pm with Pastor Brian Prue of Walnut Hill Community Church officiating. Burial will follow in Umpawaug Cemetery, Redding.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning between the hours of 10:00-11:30am.
