Obituary of John Richard Gunzy
Bethel – Mr. John R. “Jack” Gunzy, age 83, of Bethel died Wednesday October 24, 2018 at Danbury Hospital. He was the loving husband of Margaret (Brown) Gunzy.
Mr. Gunzy was born in Norwalk on May 28, 1935, son of the late Louis and Anna (Kuchma) Gunzy. He graduated from Bridgeport Engineering Institute with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering while he was working at Nash Eng of Norwalk. During his employment at Perkin Elmer, Jack worked on the surveillance system of Lockheed Martin U2 spy plane. He held an Electroluminescent patent for Timex and eventually retired from Curtis Instruments in 1997.
Jack and Margaret moved to Bethel in 1968 to raise their family where he embodied a “Pride in Ownership” philosophy and fixed everything. Dad was a scholar, educator, coach, our Greatest Fan and a family man to the core. An athlete in his own rite; it’s folklored that he handed DHS its only loss on the gridiron with a fake punt on Thanksgiving Day in 1951. He was indeed a product of the Greatest Generation.
His greatest joys were watching his family play sports and vacationing on Long Beach Island, New Jersey.
In addition to his wife Margaret, Mr. Gunzy is survived by his children: Roxanne Norton and her husband Timothy of Valley Center, CA, Dr. Todd Gunzy and his wife Lisa of Mesa, AZand Jay Gunzy and his wife Mary of Danbury, his sisters: Joyce Amon of Stratford and Carol Gunzy of Buzzards Bay, MA, 7 grandchildren Caitlin, Allie, Nicole, Kyle, Regan, JT and Joey, 2 great grandchildren: Colin, Shaun and several nieces and nephews.
