Obituary of Evelyn Dewan
Danbury – Mrs. Evelyn (Ziemba) Dewan, age 91, of Danbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Glen Hill Nursing Home in Danbury on Tuesday December 4, 2018. She was the loving wife of the late Emil Dewan.
Mrs. Dewan was born June 21, 1927 in Chicopee, MA, daughter of the late Ignatius and Katherine (Gruzka) Ziemba. She was a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and played piano with the Pops. She then became a piano instructor and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Maronite Catholic Church in Danbury. Along with her husband, she also owned and operated the former Dewan Supper Club, now Jim Barberie’s Restaurant in Danbury, for many years. She loved music and as a member of the family band ”The Dewan Quintet” she played in many local ceremonies and celebrations. She enjoyed celebrations with her family the most.
Mrs. Dewan “Bop” is survived by her sons: Darryll Dewan and his partner Carol Robitaille of Santa Barbara, CA and Dana Dewan and his wife Colleen of Danbury, her 7 grandchildren: Jenna Dewan, Daniel Dewan, Dayne Dewan, Dawson Dewan, Dillon Dewan, Chelsea Dewan, Devon Dewan and his fiancée/adopted granddaughter, Danae Castillo, her great granddaughter: Everly “Evie” Tatum and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Duke Dewan in 2002 and her two brothers: Adolph and Alphonse Ziemba.
Mrs. Dewan’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday December 8, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Maronite Catholic Church in Danbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury.
