Obituary of James John Christos
James J. Christos “Tocky”, 90, of Brookfield, beloved husband of Barbara (Thuman) “Bobbie” Christos, died on Wednesday, January 2nd at Danbury Hospital. He was born in Danbury on July 22, 1928, son of the late John and Alexandra (Politou) Christos. He was a graduate of Henry Abbot Technical School and Bridgeport Engineering Institute and was a Veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving in Korea during the pre-war efforts.
Tocky was an entrepreneur from the young age of 7, working as a shoeshine boy from a wooden box built by his father, and continued throughout his life. He approached life with hard work and determination. He attained upper level positions as a mechanical engineer with Davis & Geck during his career and was responsible for starting operatations for surgical suture plants for foreign plants including Mexico, Canada and South Africa. He also worked as a realtor, owned and operated the Sea Gull Motel in the early 1970’s, and retired after 28 years owning and operating the Wood Bin in Brookfield. He was proud to have designed and built homes for some of his family and friends.
Tocky was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He instilled a strong foundation of taking pride in your work, staying humble and putting family above all else. He was generous with those he loved, and supported them through every turn of life.
One of his grandchildren said it best “There is nothing he wouldn’t do for those he loved. His legacy and honor will continue throughout our family’s lineage as we remember the lessons he taught us and the sacrifices he made for us.”
In addition to his loving wife of 65 years, Bobbie, he will be sadly missed by his three children, Rev. Laurie Divine (Michael), Terrie Christos Cooke, and James Christos (Vaso); his grandchildren, Matthew (Renee) and Jesse Divine, Rachael Cooke Allen (David), Emma and Wesley Cooke, Sgt. James Christos (Merredith) of the Bethel Police Dept, Christopher, Amanda and Sandra Christos; and three great grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob and Jackson; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Dr. Louis Christos, Bessie Tramontanis, and Tessie Ambadjes.
The Rite of Burial will take place on Monday, January 7th at 10:30am at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Danbury. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel with military honors.
The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury on Sunday between the hours of 5:00 – 7:30pm. A Trisagion Service will be held at 7:30pm.
