Obituary of Sr. Celine Marie Flynn SSND
Sister Mary Celine Flynn, a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, died on January 9, at Villa Notre Dame, Wilton, at age 82. Mary Helen Flynn was born on September 9, 1936, in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of John Flynn and Ellen O’Hara, both from Ireland.
After pronouncing her vows as a School Sister of Notre Dame in 1964, she began teaching at St. Mary Business School in Buffalo, New York. She also taught at St. Joseph High School, Rochester, NY, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Business School in Manhattan. Berkeley College in New Jersey, and Cittone Institute in Edison, NJ. Sister also served as Pastoral Associate at St. Cecilia Parish in Iselin, New Jersey, and as Director of Religious Education at St. Michael Parish, Greenwich, Conn. In her retirement Sister resided Villa Notre Dame in Wilton.
Friends may call at Villa Notre Dame, 345 Belden Hill Road, Wilton, on Thursday, January 17, from 3 to 7pm, with a Christian wake service at 6pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Friday, January 18. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bethel, Conn.
