Obituary of Sr. Carolyn Kinnamon, CND
Sister Carolyn Kinnamon, a Sister of the Congregation of Notre Dame of Montreal, died on December 23, 2019 at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton, CT.
Born in Baltimore in 1937 to William Lloyd Kinnamon and Mable M. (Phillips) Kinnamon, Carolyn attended Towson Elementary School in Baltimore. After her family moved to New York, she went to the high school of Notre Dame Academy of Staten Island, where she first met Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame. She then continued on to Notre Dame College, from which she graduated with a B.A. degree in history in 1959. After teaching for several years she entered the Novitiate of the Congregation in Bourbonnais, IL. She later earned a master’s degree in education from Southern Connecticut State University.
After her first profession of vows in 1965, Sister taught in all the following elementary schools: Notre Dame Academy, Staten Island; St. Mary’s, St. Albans, VT; St. Columba, New York City; St. Mary’s, Providence, RI; and St. Jude the Apostle, South Holland, IL, where she also served as Assistant Principal. From 1985 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 1999, she helped to establish the Congregation’s Visitation Center in Ridgefield, CT, serving as Plant Steward, Assistant Director, and Director. She then participated in the creation of an international community in Montreal, and even in retirement at Andrus-on-Hudson Sister Carolyn continued her ministry of hospitality.
Sister Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, and her welcoming presence will be missed by her whole CND family and by her many friends. A wake and funeral were held at Villa Notre Dame, in Wilton, CT.
