My daughter, Katie, had the privilege of having Lena for he fifth grade teacher. We all loved her! Lena was warm and friendly and an excellent teacher. I have subbed many times at JRMS in the following years and always enjoyed talking to and working with her. She always had a happy smile with lots of energy and brought warmth into my day. I was horrified to read this obituary the other day. I came across it by accident.and had no idea she was even sick. I am devastated. I am sure JRMS will feel her loss forever. She cannot be replaced because she was one of a kind. She was one of Katie's favorite teachers and she talks about her often. She was an inspiration to us all! I am so so sorry!

I had privilege and honor of working with Lena for over 16 years at John Read Middle School. She was always the precision, strength, and logic of our 5th Grade team. Her care for her students and her professional accomplishments were always so very inspiring to me; her sense of humor and lightheartedness could may a bad day joyful. Lena's "Moon Project" has always resonated in my mind in memories of her at JRMS. She had students look at the heavens in a new and most meaningful way. I shall always remember her as I look up at the different Phases of the Moon. Somehow I believe that she will be within those moonbeams spreading her light back on all whom were and remain near and dear to her. Travel in Peace among His Creation and know you remain forever loved by all who were fortunate to have you in their lives.

Lena at first I want to send condolences to your family ❤️ Our first meeting was at the football team KSK and you were like a mom for all the younger girls. We all looked up to you and you make us feel like we all were a strong team. You and your sister Maria always make us laugh. I’m happy to have those memories to day ❤️ May you Rest In Peace

I was one of the lucky students put in Mrs. Green's 5th grade homeroom class. She was extremely selfless and made a great impact on my life. I feel that Mrs. Green not only progressed me educationally, but she also taught me important lessons that I will forever remember. Every day when she entered class, Mrs. Green was prepared, enthusiastic and strong no matter the circumstances. Along with her courage and strength, she truly cared about every single one of her students and she expressed this love each day when she taught. Every lesson Mrs. Green taught was educational, yet fun and intriguing. Some memories I have of her include the Swedish candy she brought for us, when she would sing to us in Swedish and a grade wide event called the Spring Games. She supported her students every step of the way and this loss is devastating to me. She and her adventurous spirit will live within me my entire life and I will never forget how Mrs. Green improved me as a person. Mrs. Green's main goal was to make her students strive and reach to be their best selves and I will forever remember her wishes and try my hardest to achieve that goal of hers. Mrs. Green always showed her deepest love to students, staff, friends, family and more, so now I say to her, thank you for every little thing and I will miss you deeply. Lena Green, the world will forever miss you, your kindness and most importantly the love you conveyed every single day.

I am one of Mrs. Greens previous students. She was the kindest, sweetest person to have ever known. Not only did she teach me academically, but she taught me life lessons. She changed my perspective on the world. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without her contribution to my 5th grade experience. I could not have asked for a more welcoming face and woman to invite me into the middle school. I might forget dividing fractions in 10 years, but I will never forget that warm smile, and how she taught our class to NEVER quit anything we did. She always put her students first. An example: She told our class that if there were to be a lockdown, she would throw a stool out the window and make sure we kids all got out before saving herself. Also, when she went on an occasional trip to Sweden, she would still be thinking about her students. She brought back candies for us and many, many stories. You will forever be in our hearts, Lena Green.

Knowing Lena for 35 years, we have many many beautiful memories, but one recent one is visiting her and Geoff at their home in Sweden and having dinner on their lawn with several Swedish family members. We spent a great day in Stockholm and later touring Lena's childhood neighborhood as well as her Mom's home and her sister Maria's home. We shared some laughs about Lena's stories of growing up. Three family trips to a beach house in South Carolina with three generations of Greens were also memorable. We will miss her greatly.
