Over the past few days, when I have felt overwhelmed, I have pictured Althea’s face as she has stood many times in front of me with a pastel sweatshirt on (always with flowers or kitties or something on it) saying, first “Hi how are you?”, then listening, really listening, and then saying “It will be o.k.” It calms me now as it always has. There are people you meet in life who really really make a difference- to a few, to some, to many. Althea made a difference to many, many, many of us. To Nancy and all of her family- my deepest condolences. May we offer some of the light, love and support Althea gave to us all.

Althea might have helped save my life when she asked me to share Step 1 early on in my journey. She was an AMAZING woman who touched soooo many lives. Her lovely smile and amazing spirit will be missed

Martia Smith Posted Jan 26, 2022 at 9:00 AM
Hello. I’m Martia Smith, formerly Martia Reed. When I moved at 12 to Walpole, Althea was my best friend for years. I lived near their farm and she helped me adjust to a new school me and was so kind. She was a hard worker on their farm, cooking and sewing, including working in the barn and in the fields, helping her dad. d. She still had time to be a good friend. We remained in contact, sending letters yearly. I didn’t realize until now that she has passed. I hope you still can read this note.

As Althea was fond of saying on a bleary day, “The sun is shining - somewhere!” I know with certainty it’s shining on you now Althea❤️
