Obituary of James Joseph Went
Riverhead, New York – Mr. James J. Went, of Riverhead, NY and also of the Villages, FL, formerly of Brookfield, CT, died Monday April 13, 2020 at the age of 71. He is survived by his wife Marianne (Bonnie) Bambina-Went.
Mr. Went was born on July 6, 1948 in Danbury, CT. He was the son of the late Henry J. and Mary (Tomascak) Went. He grew up in Brookfield, CT and received his bachelor’s degree from Bentley College in Waltham, MA and an M.B.A. from Villanova University near Philadelphia, PA. He was a Certified Public Accountant. He lived in southern New Jersey and worked for SmithKline in Philadelphia, PA and DuPont Pharmaceuticals in Wilmington, DE during the 1980’s. While with DuPont Pharmaceuticals he moved to Garden City, NY in the 1990’s. He retired from Bristol-Myers Squibb in 2005 and began dividing his time between Florida and New York.
Jim was a devoted father and enjoyed relaxing by the pool and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid reader, excellent problem solver, and all-around handyman. He and Bonnie owned loyal and playful Akitas throughout their marriage.
In addition to his wife Bonnie, Mr. Went is survived by his children, Matt Went and his wife Athena, Chris Went and his wife Jessica, Jeff Went and his wife Jamie, Alicia Went; his brother, Bob Went and his wife Martha; his grandchildren, Domenic, Jocelyn, C.J., Adelaide, Jonathan, James, Kevin, and Grace; his step children, Nina Bambina and her husband Andy Buck, Francesco Bambina and James Bambina; his step grandson, Arthur; his nephew, Andy and wife Jeanine, and his great nephew Eddy. He was predeceased by his nephew Anthony (Tony) Went.
Private funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Cornell Memorial Home 247 White Street Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
