Obituary of John Owen Smith

New Milford – Mr. John Owen Smith, age 71, of New Milford died Wednesday December 9, 2020 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Janet (Rader) Smith.

Mr. Smith was born September 9, 1949 in Portchester, New York, son of the late Samuel M. and Ann (Smith) Smith. After graduation from Brookfield High School, John served four years in the U.S. Navy. He then worked for Kimberly Clark for 30 years and Hoya Lens for 10 more years. He was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danbury. He loved bicycle riding and camping with family and friends.

In addition to his wife Janet, Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter Kristin Lynn Mazuroski and her husband Rob of Harwinton, his son Jason A. Smith of Sausalito, CA, his sister Sandra Tyson of Mesa, AZ his brother Samuel M. Smith of Yuma, AZ,  two granddaughters, Mackenzie and Kayleigh Mazuroski and numerous nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. A family graveside service will be held on Monday December 21 at 11:00 in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery. Contributions in John’s name may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or School.

The Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street Danbury is entrusted with the arrangements.
