Obituary of Bella Teresa Saunders
Bella Teresa Saunders, a longtime resident of Yonkers, NY, died Monday, December 28, 2020 at River Glen Care Facility in Southbury, CT. She was 91 years old. Born May 17, 1929 in New York City. Bella was a daughter of the late Francesco and Giuditta (LaForgia) Poveromo. She is predeceased by her brothers William, Rocco, Frank, Joseph Poveromo and her sister Mary Tufo.
On April 12, 1959, she married Michael (Jimmy) Saunders at St. Peter and Paul Church in the Bronx where she had gone to school. He died in 1988.
Bella was the dear mother of Jane Saunders and Judy (and David) Fredette of Brookfield, CT.
She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Christopher, Matthew and Brendan Sinnott and Emily, Michael and Jillian Fredette.
Bella prided herself on her New York City roots, growing up around the corner from Yankee Stadium. She attended NYC schools and graduated from Cathedral High School. She began her career as a bookkeeper at Abercrombie & Fitch in the city. She then went on to work for U-Vend, a vending machine company in Mt. Vernon, NY until her retirement.
Bella loved to travel, even to Australia, South America and Russia in her later years.
But she was the happiest cooking Sunday dinner for her houseful of family in the basement of 630K-her home for 60 years and talking about her family. She loved hearing about how her grandchildren and 22 nieces and nephews were, even up until our last ‘zoom’ call on Christmas Eve.
Memorial donations honoring Bella’s life may be made to Spare Some for Autism 1415 Crenshaw Point, Wake Forest NC 27587 or online at https://cameronsmobilesensorystation.org/
