Obituary of Ruth E McGorty
Ruth Eleanor McGorty, 95 of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Adrienne, in New Milford, CT. Ruth was the widow of James McGorty. She was born in West New York, New Jersey on October 14, 1926 to the late John and Clara Daley and was a graduate of St. Joseph of the Palisades HS in West New York, NJ.
Ruth was an award winning crafter who mastered all types of hand-work from knitting to needlepoint & embroidery, to dress making and reupholstering. She learned crochet in the last months of her life. Ruth enjoyed gardening and could make things grow where they normally wouldn’t. Ruth was a devout Catholic who attended mass daily, either in person or virtually. Ruth was a homemaker and care taker who put everyone’s needs before her own. When asked if she wanted anything, she was sure to reply “Just a kind word.”
Ruth will be sadly missed by her children: Mark McGorty and his wife Sabra of Lyndonville, Vermont, and their children Kate, her fiancée Erin and James, his wife Levi and son Sage. Jay McGorty and his wife Maryellen of Washington, CT and their children Michael, his wife Milan and sons Max, Killian and Aston. Ryan, his wife Caroline and Jay. Gavin and his wife Theresa of Brookfield, CT and their children Kelly, his fiancée Andrea and Shea, his fiancée Katie. Adrienne McGorty of New Milford, CT her children Kyle, and Paige as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ruth was predeceased by her grandson, Martin and sister, Miriam Malloy.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday April 8, 2022 at St. Joseph in Brookfield. Burial will be in Edgewater Cemetery in Edgewater, Florida at the convenience of her family.
The family would like to thank all of the people at Regional Hospice in Danbury, CT, as well as her aides, who made it possible for Ruth to stay at home.
