Marie (Hastie) Humphrey
July 14, 1928 – April 15, 2022
Marie (Hastie) Humphrey, age 93, a 64 year resident of Danbury, died peacefully at the Hancock Hall nursing home in Danbury on Friday, April 15, 2022. She was the devoted wife of John Calvin Humphrey for 60 years who passed away in 2007.
Mrs. Humphrey was born in Preston, England on July 14, 1928, a daughter of the late John and Amelia Hastie. Marie came to the United States at the age of 3 always remember seeing “The Lady in the Water” on her way to Ellis Island. She grew up in Westport, Connecticut and moved to Danbury with husband and children in 1958.
Marie’s husband John and her brother Jack, proudly served their country during WWII in the Navy on the USS Tuscaloosa.
Throughout her lifetime Marie was an amazing mother, an avid reader, a talented artist, enjoyed so many broadway musicals and passionately loved gardening. For many years she worked at the Danbury Fair in the Dutch Village at the Woodcock nursery selling flowers and bulbs.
Marie was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be greatly missed. Marie and her husband John wrote and illustrated fun and imaginative Easter books for their grandchildren for many years.
In addition to the love of her life, Marie and John are survived by 4 sons: Steven Humphrey and his wife Lynn of Sonora, CA, Mark Humphrey of Florida, Robert Humphrey and his wife Colleen of Southbury, CT, and Keith Humphrey and his wife Marcine of Wappingers Falls, NY; a daughter, Wendy Kelley and her husband Mike of Bluffton, SC; 6 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Funeral Information
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 6:00 pm at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, CT. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 until the service at 6:00.
