Obituary of Catherine Helen Carr
Brookfield – Mrs. Catherine H. (Flynn) Carr, 90, of Brookfield died Sunday August 7, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Robert J. Carr.
Mrs. Carr was born February 9, 1932 in Dunmore, PA daughter of the late John and Helen (Walsh) Flynn. She received both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Marywood College, and then began a long career as a math and science teacher.
After college, she married Bob, her high school sweetheart, and moved with him to Brookfield where they began a wonderful and loving 51-year marriage until Bob’s passing in 2010.
She taught seventh grade at St. Joseph School in Brookfield for over 20 years, and always loved to hear stories from her former students of their many successes and accomplishments. She had a deep faith in God, and was an active member of St. Joseph Church.
Catherine loved being surrounded by family. Her times of greatest joy were when all her family were gathered together to celebrate a holiday, family event, or just spend time with one another. She also enjoyed activities with her many longtime friends – playing bridge, traveling, water aerobics, attending Mass, or just enjoying a cup of coffee together.
Catherine will be sadly missed by her children: Robert Carr, Jr. and his wife Linda of Brookfield, Marie Belvin and her husband Larry of Acworth, GA and Helen Tallaksen and her husband Robert of New Milford; her grandchildren: Catherine Carr, Matthew Carr and his wife Amanda, Nicholas and Julia Belvin, and Sarah and Anna Tallaksen; and her great-grandchildren: Mckenna and Patrick Carr, in addition to several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister, Marie Flynn Levene.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday August 11, 2022 from 6 to 8 pm at the Brookfield Funeral Home 786 Federal Road Brookfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday August 12, 2022 at 10 am at St. Joseph Church in Brookfield. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury.
