Obituary of Roger F. Lopes, Sr.
Danbury – Mr. Roger F. Lopes, Sr., age 80, of Danbury passed away peacefully at the Regional Hospice in Danbury on Monday October 24, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Betty Ann (Cordiero) Lopes.
Mr. Lopes was born April 21, 1942 in Chancery, France son of the late Fernando Lopes and AliziraBorges Mendes Lopes. He was retired as the owner of Lopes Wines and Liquors in Danbury and from his personal lawn care service. He also worked as a meter reader for CL&P for many years and was a communicant of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Danbury. He was a member of the Portuguese American Club and the Sons of Portugal and coached soccer for many years with PAL. He enjoyed gardening, watching boxing and soccer on tv and socializing at Marcel’s Place.
Mr. Lopes is survived by his children: Susan Simmons and her husband Corey of Southbury, Diane Lopes of Plant City, FL and Roger Lopes, Jr. and his wife Heather of Tampa, FL, his brother: Marcel Mendes of Bethel, his grandchildren: Tyler, Zack and Brooke and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers: Andre Mendes and Antonio Mendes.
Mr. Lopes family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday October 29, 2022 from 1 to 3 pm at the Cornell Memorial Home 247 White Street Danbury. Private funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
