Obituary of Frederick Robert Ruopp

Frederick R. Ruopp, 98, of Danbury, fell asleep in his Lord’s arms at home on Wednesday, October 26^th.  He was born in Danbury on June 11, 1924, son of the late J. George and Anna Marie (Schulze) Ruopp.  He was a graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1942, and the Connecticut State Trade School.   

Fred’s faith in God was the most important part of his life and he was an active and lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danbury.  He was involved in many activities including the Walther League and the Men’s Club and he was a former Trustee of the Church. He was active in the School Guild and served as a Cub Scout leader for Immanuel Lutheran School Troop 55. He could be found with just the right tool in his pocket to fix just about anything in need of repair at his beloved church and school home.

Fred was a Veteran of World War II, proudly serving with the Army 2nd Air Force.  He was a recipient of the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.  He later served the City of Danbury in civil preparedness as a Radiological officer during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Fred worked at Sipperly Artesian Well for most of his life. His later years were spent as a water treatment technician for the City of Danbury from which he retired. He enjoyed bowling, racing stock cars and in his younger years, driving in demolition derby.

He is survived by five of his children, Rachel Williams of Bridgewater; Dennis (Caprice) of Danbury; Stephen (Diana) of Norfolk, Loretta Fox (Kevin) of Brookfield, and Andrew Ruopp, with whom he made his home; his son-in-law, Roger Palanzo; seventeen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 55 years and the mother of their seven children, Anita (Berger) Ruopp; his son, Walter, his daughter, Cynthia Palanzo; and his son-in-law, Robert L. Williams. He was also predeceased by his second wife, Elsie Fitze.

Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Wednesday, November 2nd at 11:30am.  Burial will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church between 10:30 and 11:30am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
