Obituary of Maria Korbel
Maria (Eckhardt) Korbel, age 94, of Danbury passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 1, 2023 at Hancock Hall in Danbury. She was the wife of the late Alfred Korbel.
Mrs. Korbel was born September 16, 1928 in Slovakia daughter of the late Ludwig and Maria Eckhardt and was retired after working for many years as a home care professional. Mrs. Korbel lived in Rye Brook, NY for 40 years with her last 9 years residing in Danbury, CT. Mrs. Korbel was loved by her family and friends and was an avid swimmer and gardener.
Mrs. Korbel was predeceased by her siblings: Gertrude Sokolowski, Margaret Eckhardt, Albert Eckhardt, Olga Solczyk, Rose Sakalian, Helga Gillespie, and Ludwig Eckhardt. She is survived by her nephews: David Sokolowski, his wife Kathleen, Bernard Sokolowski, his wife Tseggy and sons Bernie and James, Charles Sokolowski, Albert Sokolowski, Michael Sakalian and Richard Solczyk. Mrs. Korbel is also survived by her nieces: Alexis Carpenter, and her daughter Jessie, Lisa Bevilacqua, her husband Larry and son Ryan and daughters Megan and Katlyn and Rosie Shaw, her husband Bruce, and son Tyler and daughter Kelsey. She is also survived by her brother in-law John Sakalian and John’s granddaughter Margaret “Nikki” Sakalian.
Private graveside funeral services and inurnment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Rye, New York at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Cornell Memorial Home 247 White Street Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
