Obituary of Joan A. Shaw
Danbury – Mrs. Joan A. (Jelinek) Shaw, age 94, of Danbury passed away peacefully on Saturday April 22, 2023 at Filosa Nursing Home in Danbury. She was the widow of William J. Shaw.
Joan was born July 1, 1928 in Riverdale, New York daughter of the late Charles and Fern (Flood) Jelinek. She was a graduate of the Washington School for Secretaries. After graduating, Joan worked as a secretary for many years in NYC where she met her beloved husband. After moving to Danbury, CT and raising her children, she worked as an Office Manager at Thermal Heating and Air Conditioning. Upon retirement as an office manager Joan’s love of reading brought her to the Bethel Library where she continued working for 18 years at the circulation desk. She loved cooking, traveling, puzzles and gardening and most of all spending time with her loving family and many dear friends.
Joan is survived by her children: Russell Shaw of South Portland, Maine, Carolyn Shaw-Rodden and her partner Rick Wawrzoszek of Saratoga Springs, New York, Elizabeth Shaw of Bethel and Victoria Michalek and her husband Brandon of Danbury, her 8 grandchildren: Samantha Shaw and partner Mike Abramov, Lauren Salvato and husband JD, Christopher Rodden and partner Amanda Regan, Matthew Rodden, Brendan Belardinelli-Shaw and wife Laura, Alec Belardinelli and wife Cristina, Zachary Michalek and Addison Michalek. Her 10 great grandchildren Derrick, Dylan, Emma, Aaron, Aiden, Hayden, Maci, Jax, Brody and Duke. She is survived by her brother: Charles Jelinek of Adirondack, New York and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother: Russell Jelinek.
Family and friends will be received at Cornell Funeral Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, CT 06811 on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday April 27, 2023 beginning at 11:00 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Wooster Cemetery in Danbury.
Joan spent the last eight years of her life residing at Filosa Nursing Home. While there she received the most loving, attentive, and overall, the best quality care. Filosa’s commitment to treating residents diagnosed with Dementia is progressive and outstanding.
