Obituary of Harold Burr Covill

Harold Burr Covill, age 90, of Warren CT and formerly of Brookfield, died peacefully on Sunday November 5th 2023 in Torrington CT.

Harold was born on October 26, 1933 in Danbury, CT to his mother Laura Darling and father Arthur W. Covill Sr.  He was predeceased by his first wife May E. Joyce of Brookfield in 2003, after 50 years of marriage.  He was also predeceased by his late wife Barbara A. Covill in June 2023, and also his brothers Arthur W. Covill Jr. and Kenneth Covill, and his granddaughter Jodi Bulissa. Harold is survived by his beloved dog Nellie, and his 2 daughters: Gale A. Bullissa (David) and Patricia L. Harris (Dwight), his step son Wayne Covill (Lynne), Step daughters Susan Novicky (James) and Sharon Rice (Kelly), his 4 grandchildren: Jenifer Benham (Darrin), Jeffrey Bulissa, Gina Leckie (Justin) and Michael Cesaro (Tina), his 4 step-grandchildren: Alexa Glockner (James), Carisa Harris (Nick), Dwight Harris Jr (Lindsay), and Daniel Harris, and 14 great-grandchildren: Brett and Kelly Benham, Arianna Bulissa, Charlotte and Morgan Leckie, Hudson, Reid and Milo Cesaro, Ulysses and Tennyson Harris, James and Lucas Glockner and Ava and Ian Adamson, sister-in-law Eileen Birks and many nieces and nephews.

Harold graduated from Danbury High School in 1950. He worked as a carpenter with his father and brother Ken in Brookfield and later with Clement's Panel Company in Danbury.  He enlisted in the Army in 1953, serving in the Korean War using his carpentry skills to build housing for the Air Force.  At the end of the Korean War he joined the Army Reserve for another 4 years. Harold then worked for the State of Connecticut under the Department of Transportation where he became a supervisor in the construction of CT bridges and roads.  Harold worked hard to provide for his family and worked nights and weekends with a land surveyor.  In the mid 70's he took a correspondence course to obtain his own land surveying license. After retiring from the State of Connecticut, Harold formed a partnership engineering and surveying company in Brookfield. 

Harold was a founding member and deacon of the Newbury Congregational Church in Brookfield where he developed many close lifelong friendships.  He was also a Trustee for Brookfield's Central Cemetery for many years.  Harold loved his family and friends and enjoyed reading, traveling, camping, genealogy, and watching the birds in his backyard.  He eventually stopped going to the Warren library as he said he had read everything there.  Harold was a quiet man, with a big heart, always helping family and friends with whatever was needed.  

He will be missed by so many.

Funeral Service will be held at Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Rd. Brookfield at 1 pm on Saturday November 18th.
