Obituary of Dorothy B. Bittorf

Danbury- Dorothy B. (Moehlin) Bittorf, age 96, of Danbury passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Glen Hill Center in Danbury on February 28^th, 2024. She was the widow of Walter G. Bittorf. Survivors include: Diane Passander of Danbury, CT and Debra Bean of Grantham, NH. As well as her grandchildren Adam Passander (Marivee), Melinda Passander (Richard), Ryan Bolmer & Rachael Meade (Branden). She is also survived by her great grandchildren Adam, Jonathan, Arianna, Chloe & Alexander and her 2 nephews: Richie and Alan Kolessar. She was predeceased by her sister: Marilyn Kolessar & spouse Richard Kolessar. As well as her 2 son in laws Clint Bean & John Passander.

Mrs. Bittorf was born February 4^th, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY. Daughter of the late Irvin and Johanna (Heinz) Moehlin.

Dorothy graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in NY in 1946. She met the love of her life Walter. Walter enlisted in the Navy and after his 4 years of service, they were married.

They eventually moved to Danbury, CT where they raised their 2 daughters.

She enjoyed sewing, even making the draperies in her house as well as her children’s clothes. She was a dedicated and creative homemaker. Later in life she became involved with painting, which she was very gifted in.

While her family was growing up, Dorothy enjoyed bowling, gardening, artistic crafts, sewing & quilting. Dorothy was involved with creating numerous different painting projects, whom she enjoyed sharing with her family and friends.

After many years of raising her family, Dorothy got her license and pursued a career at the Sears Catalog Company, eventually becoming a supervisor of the catalog department.

After retiring, Dorothy & Walter spent time traveling to Maine, especially Acadia & Jordan Pond. Other trips included visiting family in Florida.  Some of their favorite places include Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor & Fort Myers. Dorothy loved going to the Shell Factory & Carolina Pottery. She enjoyed having tea at Jordan Pond (ME). Every spring, they would go to Lancaster, PA to go to the Green Dragon Flea Market.

Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family & being surrounded by her loved ones.

One of everyone’s fondest memories was of celebrating Christmas with her.  

Mrs. Bittorf’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday March 4^th, 2024 from 1-3pm at the Cornell Memorial Home 247 White St. Danbury. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday March 4^th, 2024 at 3pm. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery in Danbury on Saturday March 9^th, 2024 at 11am.
