Obituary of Ann A. Raithel

Called Ann by her many friends, Banannie by her late husband Larry, Auntie Ann by her many nieces and nephews, "Mudder in Law" by Andrew, Nana/Nanny by her 5 cherished grandchildren and Mom by two lucky and grateful women, Cornelia Ann Raithel passed away peacefully on April 6, 2024.

Born July 1, 1942 in Fairlawn, New Jersey, she spent her childhood in Vernon, Vermont and was proud of her Vermont roots. An accidental graduate of St. Michael's High School in Brattleboro, she was a founding member of the Dill Pickle Eaters Club and proud recipient of the Betty Crocker Award for Excellence in Home Economics.

After school, she worked as a telephone operator (until her bee hive hair became a career limiter) and at Southbury Training School.

She loved peeps, candy corn, crosswords, scallops, maple sugar candy, yelling out answers to Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and weaving tapestries of obscenities.

She believed she could do anything in life (except swim and balance her checkbook) and this attitude, (along with the amazing staff at The Diebold Family Cancer Center), helped her overcome lung cancer and battle other illnesses for as long and as hard as she did.

Her spirit lives on in her daughters Beth Brady (partner Sheila) of Colchester, CT and Kate Capasso (husband Andrew) of San Antonio, TX, her grandchildren Nicholas, Jasmyn and Caroline Brady and Adrianna and Aidan Capasso and special kid, Araya Landry of Framingham, MA.

She follows her husband Larry and sisters Marjorie, Helen and Mary as well as in-laws Gladys, Rob, Ted and Esther.

Beth and Kate would like to thank her Food Market Crew and her South St. Squad for making her life safer and immensely brighter.

Ann would also want to mention her bonus kids, Sheila and Andrew. Their love, humor, IT assistance and unexpected crafts and Amazon gifts were a constant source of joy.

In lieu of services, a celebration of Ann's life will be held at a later date. Memorial Contributions can be made to The Diebold Family Cancer Center or Danbury Hospital.
