Some of my favorite memories growing up next door to Ron have to involve his unabashed Britishness. Later years would find me laughing whenever I saw a soccer hooligan in a movie because it reminded me of Ron.
Growing up Ron was like an uncle to me. He was always kind and easy to laugh. I know there were also tough times but on balance his house was always a welcoming place to throw down a granola bar while we planned neighborhood events. I’m pretty sure we founded the rad riders on his porch and drove him nuts as we inevitably dinged his fence.
As we got older hanging out with Ron was a fun new experience. We got to know each other as friends. Unfortunately over the years I have not been able to connect with him but he came up in my thoughts consistently when I looked back at my childhood.
Ron was a special man. He showed me that one can have flaws but with a pure heart they can be overcome. Hearing of his passing tore at my heart but I am glad he was able to make an impact in the next generation and beyond. He will be sorely missed in a world like this.
I know all my family loved “bloody Ron “ and are devastated as well.
